My grade 7 portfolio
Unit Overview: In this unit I read the novel, American Born Chinese. Throughout this unit we explored the idea of Stereotypes and how they were represented in the story, and how they are displayed in everyday life. I completed the vocabulary and comprehension exercises in my Reader’s Notebook for each chapter, and created my own graphic novel as a final project.
Enduring Understanding:
How can you stay true to yourself in the face of judgment from your peers? We need to believe in yourself, don’t think a lot about what other people think about you.
Why do stereotypes exist? Are they ever accurate? Can a stereotype ever be positive? Stereotypes exist because they represents a way of that person’s race, personality, and emotions. They are not always accurate. Yes, stereotypes can be in a positive way.
How do stereotypes affect all of us? It explain our race and how we really are.
Reflection on Progress Towards the Standards:
Strengths: In this unit I think my strengths are recalling important information and make inferences about the text.
Areas for Improvement: In this unit my areas of improvement should be creating a display that effectively presents ideas.
